Hello and thank you for looking in on our church.
United Methodist pastors are itinerant which means we all move around a lot. Oceanview is officially my 4th appointment but it’s still very much home as I served as a ministry intern from 2002-2004 and then worshiped here with my family as a part of the congregation while I was on leave from 2007-2012.
I’m a Florida native, born in Tampa. My mom is from Hialeah and my dad is from Jacksonville. I went to Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL where I earned a B.A. in Philosophy and Religion. I received my Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
I’ve been an elder in the Florida Conference for 11 years and have served Saint Paul UMC in Tallahassee, Simpson Memorial UMC in Riviera Beach, St. Peter’s UMC in Wellington. I’ve been married to Shawn McGee since 2005 and we have been trying to raise Mary Virginia since 2007 (I think now she’s raising us!). We’ve lived in Abacoa since 2006 and LOVE it.
Some of my favorite days are ones spent at home with a gripping novel. I’ve been known to neglect household and health when caught up in the throws of a good story. I exercise regularly, lifting weights and running around like a crazy person. Plus I have the healthy eating habits that go with it (although I’m also known to cheat from time to time… my favorite is CAKE!).
Shawn likes to go to the woods, sometimes he comes home with a deer or hog, sometimes not. Mary sings and acts, she is learning the piano and the trumpet and she plays rec softball with Palm Beach Gardens. We love the Pittsburgh Steelers – my NFL team-in-law. Since Shawn grew up in Pittsburgh and his family lives there, we visit “da Burgh” as often as we can.
My call to ministry, as well as some of the most formative relationships I’ve developed, have come from our conference’s camping ministry, especially the summer time program at the Warren Willis Camp in Leesburg, Florida where I spent five summers on the leadership team.
I’m grateful for the appointment to Oceanview and love the chance to build relationships with the community of Juno Beach as well as my ministry colleagues in the northern parts of Palm Beach County.
